Chapter 3 is titled Criminal Law. It gives an overview of the laws which are generally used and referred to. The two main divisions are statutory law and case law. The laws which we read from the book are called statutory law. It is also called the law of the land. The laws can only be called “codified” only when they have been written in an orderly manner. Penal code on the other hand is the written form of criminal law. Another interesting part is the case law which is a result of the various judicial decisions made over the time.
